Drowning in Health Advice? A Simple Framework for Restoring Metabolic Health

There has never been more health information available.

And yet, there has never been more confusion.

Fast longer.
Don’t fast.
Go carnivore.
Eat plants.
Fix your gut.
Balance your hormones.
Detox your liver.
Track your glucose.
Cold plunge.
Red light therapy.
Remove seed oils.
Avoid lectins.

If you’re just getting started, it can feel like peeling back one layer of the onion… only to find ten more problems underneath.

You start thinking:

  • Now I have to worry about environmental toxins?

  • Is my gut lining damaged?

  • Are my hormones a mess?

  • Is everything in my house slowly poisoning me?

  • Do I need a million supplements now?

  • What the heck are electrolytes?

Eventually the brain does what it always does when overwhelmed.

Not because you don’t care about your health. But because too much information creates paralysis.

Why So Many People Feel Stuck

Many people are trying incredibly hard to be healthy.

They’re buying supplements.
Experimenting with diets.
Tracking macros.
Listening to podcasts.
Reading articles.

And yet they still feel:

  • exhausted

  • inflamed

  • stuck in cycles of weight gain

  • battling cravings

  • dealing with blood sugar crashes

  • struggling with hormonal symptoms

It’s not because they lack discipline.

It’s because their bodies are receiving far more signals of injury than signals of repair.

This is where one concept completely shifted the way I think about health.


The Golden Ratio: Injury vs Repair

During my studies with Dr. Zach Bush, I learned a framework that simplifies health in a powerful way.

He calls it the Golden Ratio of Health.

At its core, health is determined by the balance between:

The rate of injury
and
The rate of repair

Every single day, your body is balancing two forces:

1. Injury can come from things like:

  • Poor nutrition (food system lacking nutrients)

  • Toxins in food, water, and consumer products

  • Chronic stress

  • Sleep deprivation

  • Lack of exercise/physical movement

  • Alcohol

  • Environmental load

  • Medications that disrupt gut integrity

  • Emotional trauma

But the body is also constantly trying to repair and regenerate:

2. Repair happens through things like:

  • Quality sleep

  • Nutrient dense, organic foods

  • Fasting and metabolic flexibility

  • Cellular regeneration

  • Stem cell replacement

  • Microbiome communication

  • Hydration at the cellular level

  • Nutrient signaling

  • Detox pathways

  • Nervous system regulation

This ratio influences everything from gut health and hormone balance to insulin resistance, inflammation, immune function, and long-term metabolic resilience.

Health is not about eliminating all injury.

That’s impossible in modern life.

Health is all about the ratio.

If injury slightly outweighs repair → slow decline and poor health.
If repair slightly outweighs injury → gradual regeneration and potential to thrive.

That’s it.

Not trendy. Not extreme.
Powerful.

 


Why This Changes Everything

Most people think they need to “fix everything.” And… ASAP! But health isn't about doing more - it's not about doing every wellness trend you hear about. It's about shifting the balance so your body spends more time repairing than breaking down.

The Golden Ratio teaches us something much more grounded:

  1. You don’t need perfection.

  2. You just need to tip the scale.

Even just slightly. And that alone, can create a powerful shift in the right direction.

If you reduce a few major sources of injury; and increase a few key repair mechanisms, your trajectory changes.

You may not feel better tomorrow.  But you will be better tomorrow.

And over weeks and months, that compounds. The repair outweighs the injury and the body begins to regenerate. And science has shown: You are fully capable of building a new body at the cellular level.

Healing is not a dramatic overnight transformation.  It’s a shift in direction.

 


Where to Start

When people start learning more about what impacts their health, things like:

  • Soil depletion and nutrient-deficient food

  • Glyphosate

  • Hormone disruptors (food and environmental toxins)

  • Leaky gut & the gut microbiome

  • Autoimmune and inflammation

The pendulum swings hard — from indifference to hyper-vigilance.

And extremes are exhausting.

Ignorance → Panic → Overcorrection → Burnout → Abandonment.

This cycle is incredibly common. But it’s not necessary.

Because the Golden Ratio gives us a calmer question:

Instead of asking,
“How do I fix everything?”

We ask,
“Where is injury the highest for me?”
“Where is repair the weakest for me?”

That’s where we start. That’s where we focus. And slowly as the body repairs, you begin to feel better, the momentum builds naturally. Without panic or overwhelm.

 


Your Body Is Not Broken — It’s Communicating

Two people can “eat healthy” and get very different results.

Why?

Because:

  • One has high stress and poor sleep.

  • One has low microbiome diversity.

  • One has blood sugar instability.

  • One has mineral depletion.

  • One has unresolved inflammation.

  • One has underlying insulin resistance or metabolic dysfunction.

That’s it.
